Welcome to GoldiDox Grove! I'm Karen Ann and I'm a bone-a-fide dogaholic! I'm totally addicted, obsessed and head-over-heels in love with my family of assorted hounds.
I became obsessed with Dachshunds at an early age. At age 11 I was diagnosed with Diabetes and in the hospital I was given a little booklet to help me learn about living with the disease... it was titled "Dolly the Diabetic Dachshund". I fell in love with the breed then and knew that one day I'd be owned by one of my own. I brought home my first Dachshund in 1989, a tiny little smooth red girl named Sassie. She was a darling and set me on the breed hook, line & sinker. Since that time a number of these long low hounds have come and gone and I can't imagine my life without at least a few of them in it.
For many years I've dreamed of breeding and showing Dachshunds. Though I've struggled throughout my life with vision loss and a variety of complications related to Diabetes I always held in my heart that my dream was more then just a fleeting glimpse of what might be. I've spent a great deal of time through the years studying all that I could about every aspect of the breed. Along the way I've spoken with highly regarded breeders, experts in canine genetics, vets and trainers. I've learned so much from their combined knowledge and experience.
I'm especially grateful for the ongoing guidance and support of my friend Stephanie of HeavenlyHund. She has given me expert advice and introduced me to fabulous breeders. Her love and devotion to her own dogs and her drive for excellence in her breeding program and in the show ring are an inspiration. I'd also like to thank Marta Spell of Wide Meadow Dachshunds who took a chance on me as a "newbie" and offered me my fabulous little cream longhair boy Georgie as a foundation stud. And Tracy Grenda who provided me with my darling little black & cream girl Joanie. These two sweet dogs are the future of GoldiDox.
I've always found Dachshunds to be a wonderfully spirited, devoted and loving breed. They have such personality and charm, and all of mine thus far have been little clowns in dog suits.
Dachshunds come in two sizes (Standard and Miniature) and in three coat varieties (smooth, wire and longhair). They are also quite a colorful breed.... in fact, Dachshunds come in more colors and patterns then any other AKC breed. Though I love the breed as a whole I've chosen cream longhairs as my foundation; I find them to be particularly stunning, elegant and sweet-natured little creatures..
Thank you for taking the time to visit GoldiDox Grove and I hope you'll enjoy the pages here. I won't be announcing GoldiDox' first litter until later in 2010, but in the meantime feel free to come back and visit often... I'm always updating my site and love showing off my gang!
When we are dreaming alone it is only a dream. When we are dreaming with others, it is the beginning of reality.
